In atherosclerosis, atherosclerotic plaques form on the internal surface of arterial walls, narrowing the vessel and impairing proper blood flow.
The development of atherosclerosis is related to one's diet, especially if it contains large amounts of saturated fats, and to high concentration of low-density lipoproteins. High blood pressure also harms the arteries and exacerbates the illness. Atherosclerosis increases hypertension, can impair the flow of blood to limbs and is often the cause of gangrene of limbs.
Atherosclerosis is treated with products which lower blood pressure, reduce the depositing of cholesterol in blood vessels and its concentration in the serum.
